The Practicing Foresters Institute (PFI) is a nonprofit corporation organized and operated not for profit, but exclusively for charitable and educational purposes and especially to offer to the public and to practicing foresters educational information and instruction so that the public in general will be benefited.
The endowment fund was established to attract substantial contributions that will be put into a special account. A policy was established that the principle of these funds shall never be touched, and the interest only will be used to support educational activities, not operating costs. The original goal of $100,000 was met in 2010 and the board of trustees shall ensure that the fund is used for scholarships, grants and educational offerings to practicing foresters and the general public.
In addition to the Endowment Fund the Trustees are responsible for raising funds and distributing monies to Education Program Funds. Currently, PFI provides Project Grants, Candidate Member Education Grants and Host Chapter Student Grants.
Each year PFI organizes a silent auction to raise monies for the “Educational Programs Fund”. The auction is held in conjunction with the Association of Consulting Foresters of America, Inc. (ACF) Annual Conference. Auction donations arrive from all over the country and many are handcrafted one of a kind items. This fundraiser helps PFI provide grant opportunities each year as the endowment fund grows.
